Owen’s Bagel and Deli

January 15, 2010

Deal: $7 for $15 worth of food from Owen’s Bagel and Deli

Grade: A

If I could eat bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel every morning, I would.  This past year, I became addicted to getting this breakfast on the weekend from a small hole-in-the-wall bagel shop in DC called Bagels, Etc.  This might be one of the things I miss most about DC, however, I’m was so excited today to discover the delicious bagels at Owen’s Bagel and Deli in Charlotte.

I ordered Mandy’s Mayhem (Turkey, Swiss, Avocado, & Sprouts on Everything) without the sprouts and Ted ordered the Piedmont (Roast Beef, Smoked Cheddar, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato on Onion).  We ended up splitting both and they were delicious (although I think mine was better).  They were served hot so that all the cheese was melted and the bagels were very doughy.  Yum!

I loved the atmosphere at Owen’s too.  While the restaurant was very kid friendly, it also felt like a college town sandwich shop where people in their early 20s might gather.

The Menu

I give Owen’s an A — great atmosphere, delicious bagel, and somewhere I will definitely go back.  So far my Charlotte Groupons have been 2-for-2…great experiences and I plan on returning to both!  Keep up the good work Groupon Charlotte!

Washington Wizards!

November 19, 2009

I went to my first Washington Wizards game last night and loved it. I’m not sure whether it was the fact that 2 of the Wizards players (Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood) used to play for UNC when my sister and I were absolutely obsessed with the Tarheels (My sister even made a sign once that said Antawn Jam-it-son)….or that they were playing Lebron James…or maybe the fact that the time out entertainment was awesome. Either way, I highly recommend today’s DC Groupon…and even recommend buying the lower level seats so you can be part of all the action.

Belly Bash

November 16, 2009

Friday night was the Belly Bash.  Our class had learned a dance to perform and I was determined to get some video footage to show you all, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity .  Not so much.  I’ve never been to anything more awkward in my life.  The “Bash” ended up being in a restaurant with no room for us perform.  We were seated at a long table with a bunch of people we didn’t know and the belly dancing teachers performed for us.

This is about all of the belly dancing I could see…

Afterwards there was a free dance for the “Belly Dancing Crash Course” graduates — during which we decided to get the heck out of there.

IndAroma

November 13, 2009

Deal: $10 for $25 to IndAroma Bakery and Cafe

Grade: A-

indaromalogo

After using our Groupon at Let’s Dish!, Ted and I walked over to IndAroma, which was in the same shopping center.

I loved IndAroma!  The girl at the counter was so full of energy and welcoming and the atmosphere in the restaurant was very calming.  The restaurant felt very clean too — big plus in my book!  We both ordered the chicken curry (which ended up being a TON of food – see below!), drinks, and got 2 desserts to go …. totaling just a few cents over $25…great deal!

The deserts we brought home were tiramisu and a walnut chocolate pudding cake.

Yum! I wish I had eaten these while they were fresh, but they were still delicious!  The little “tiramisu” thing is a little too cheesy for me, but when tiramisu tastes this good, you can put whatever cheesy thing you want on the top.  If you are near Little River Turnpike, IndAroma is worth a stop.
